What is a Lucky 31?
A Lucky 31 is a full-cover bet on five selections, combined into 31 bets:
- 5 singles, 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 four-folds and 1 five-fold
It's the five-selection member of the "Lucky" family, sitting between the Lucky 15 (4 selections) and the Lucky 63 (6 selections). Like the others it includes the singles, so one winner already returns money — and bookmakers often attach bonuses. Drop the singles and the same five picks become a Canadian.
Worked example
Five selections, all at odds of 3.00, with a €1 unit stake (€31 total). If all five win:
- 5 singles €15 + 10 doubles €90 + 10 trebles €270 + 5 four-folds €405 + 1 five-fold €243
- Total return = €1,023, a €992 profit on your €31 stake.

Frequently asked questions
- What is a Lucky 31 bet?
- A Lucky 31 is a full-cover bet on five selections combining into 31 bets: 5 singles, 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 four-folds and 1 five-fold. Because it includes the singles, one winning selection already returns money.
- How many bets are in a Lucky 31?
- 31 bets. A EUR1 unit stake therefore costs EUR31 in total (31 x EUR1).
- Do you need all five to win?
- No. The five singles mean one winner already returns something; each extra winner adds doubles, trebles, the four-folds and the five-fold on top.
- What is the difference between a Lucky 31 and a Canadian?
- Both use five selections. A Canadian (Super Yankee) has 26 bets with no singles, so it needs two winners. A Lucky 31 adds the 5 singles (31 bets), so one winner already pays - it costs more but is safer.
- What are Lucky 31 bonuses?
- Bookmakers often add bonuses on the Lucky family - commonly double the odds if only one selection wins and a percentage bonus (e.g. 10-20%) if all five win. These vary by bookmaker; this calculator shows the base returns before any bonus.
- How does a Lucky 31 compare to a Lucky 15 and Lucky 63?
- They are the same idea at different sizes: Lucky 15 = 4 selections (15 bets), Lucky 31 = 5 selections (31 bets), Lucky 63 = 6 selections (63 bets). All include singles.
